What we learned from studying Eve

What a wonderful time this morning in our Woman’s Study. Some things that can be gleaned from Studying Eve are:

GOD made male and female man, told them to be fruitful and multiply and gave them dominion over all of the animals or beast: And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. Genesis 1:26-28

GOD called the male and female man Adam: This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.Genesis 5:1-2

Adam named all the animals: And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. Genesis 2:19-20

The commandment not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was given to the man: And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. Genesis 2:15-17

The man would have had to give the commandment to the woman as she was created after the commandment was given but knew of the commandment: And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. Genesis 2:21-22

The man called the female man woman: And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Genesis 2:23

The serpent is spoken of in comparison to the other animals or beast of the field and he is crafty, subtil, knowledgeable and skilled: Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? Genesis 3:1

Strong’s breaks down what serpent is 1) dragon, serpent, sea monster.  a) dragon or dinosaur  b) sea or river monster           c) serpent, venomous snake                        www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/lexicon.cfm?Strongs=H8577&t=KJV

The last book of the bible Revelation speaks of the same serpent mentioned in the first book of the bible (Genesis) but advises us what type of serpent he is – the dragon- and makes distinction calling him “the old serpent”/”that ancient serpent” called the Devil and Satan: And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Revelation 12:9

Who named him the Devil and Satan?

The woman resisted the devil at first citing what she thought GOD had said: And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. Genesis 3:2-3

The serpent did not give up and leave the woman alone but persisted to connive and deceive: And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. Genesis 3:4-5

After listening to the serpent again, the woman ate from the tree because she saw it was good for food, was pleasant to the eyes and to be desired to make one wise: And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. Genesis 3:6

They immediately knew good and evil: And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. Genesis 3:7

Instead of being happy to be in the presence of GOD they now knew shame and hid from GOD: And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. Genesis 3:8

When confronted by GOD the man and the woman played the blame game, he blaming her and she blaming Satan: And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. Genesis 3:9-13

Satan was cursed because he had deceived the woman into disobeying the command of GOD and she enticed her husband to disobey GOD as well. Also Satan (the serpent) is still compared to the other animals or beast of the field: And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: Genesis 3:14

Deep rooted hatred, hostility; unfriendly disposition, a state of opposition: enmity was put between the serpent called the Devil and Satan and his seed (offspring-children) and the woman and all of her seed (offspring-children-every person that would ever be born through child birth including Jesus, those who would obey the commandment of GOD under the old covenant and those who hold to and love Jesus as well as keep His commandments under the new covenant: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Genesis 3:15

And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. Revelation 12:17

Eve was punished (not cursed) with painful labor in bringing forth children: Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. Genesis 3:16

The EARTH was cursed because of Adam: And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Genesis 3:17

Adam was punished (not cursed) to no longer have bliss in eating from the trees in the midst of the garden but to have to eat in sorrow from the ground all the days of his life, to no longer just dress and keep the garden but to have to work harder (laboring) plucking up the thorns and thistles, to eat the herb of the field, to eat bread in the sweat of his face and all mankind had to die: And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. Genesis 3:17(last part of 17)-19

Adam is the one who began to call the woman “Eve”: And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living. Genesis 3:20

GOD still provided for them after they messed up as HE yet does for us today: Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them. Genesis 3:21

Although the original intent of the tree of life, (which was in the garden and man had permission to eat from it) was to help man to live forever, disobedience resulted in us losing that privilege, having a death sentence in this life and man being driven out of the garden:  And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. Genesis 3:22-24

And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Genesis 2:8-9

And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. Genesis 2:15-17

How many times do we get ourselves in trouble by talking with the enemy when we need to tell him get thee behind me Satan? How many times has Satan deceived us into doing something that we thought, felt or knew was wrong when we should have just resisted the devil so that he would flee from us? How many times have we tried to fight the enemy with the WORD but misquoted as Eve did because we got second hand information from somebody else instead of getting before the LORD in HIS WORD and seeing what HE has to say for HIMSELF? Yet in all of our failures GOD loves us and forgives us when we humble ourselves and repent. He still provides for us after we’ve messed up and because man came under a judgment of death GOD provided Himself a LAMB named Jesus so we could be reconciled back to GOD and have in the life to come, what was HIS original intention for man in the first place: eternal life.
