Was John the Baptist the Elijah who was to come?
Was John the Baptist the Elijah who
was to come?
- Yes, he was Elijah (Matthew 11:7-15) - 7 As John's disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: "What did you go out into the desert to see? A reed swayed by the wind? 8 If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings' palaces. 9 Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 10 This is the one about whom it is written: " 'I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.' 11 I tell you the truth: Among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it. 13 For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John. 14 And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come. 15 He who has ears, let him hear.

The disciples asked him, "Why then
do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?" 11
Jesus replied, "To be
sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things. 12 But
I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but
have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is
going to suffer at their hands." 13
Then the disciples understood that he
was talking to them about John the Baptist.

And they asked him, "Why do the

Jesus replied, "To be sure,
Elijah does come first, and restores all things. Why
then is it written that the Son of Man must suffer much and be rejected? 13
But I tell you, Elijah has come,
and they have done to him everything they wished, just as it is written about
him."
- No, he was not the reincarnated Elijah (John 1:19-23) 19 Now this was John's testimony when the Jews of Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was. 20 He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, "I am not the Christ. " 21 They asked him, "Then who are you? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" He answered, "No." 22 Finally they said, "Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself ?" 23 John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, "I am the voice of one calling in the desert, 'Make straight the way for the Lord.' (See Isaiah 40:3 - A voice of one calling: "In the desert prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God.)
The teaching of reincarnation is
against the Old Testament; therefore, Jesus was not teaching that John the
Baptist was Elijah reincarnated.
So, what did Jesus mean when He said
that John the Baptist was Elijah? We see in Malachi
4:5-6 this prophecy, 5 "See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes.
6 He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their
children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers;
or else I will come and strike the land with a curse."
Jesus is referring to the prophecy concerning
Elijah. The coming of Elijah was in
the spirit of Elijah, which is so stated by an Angel of the LORD in the
context of (Luke 1:5-17): 5 In the
time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to
the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of
Aaron. 6
Both of them were upright in the sight of God, observing all the Lord's
commandments and regulations blamelessly. 7 But they
had no children, because Elizabeth was barren; and they were both well along in
years. 8
Once when Zechariah's division was on duty and he was serving as priest before
God, 9
he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to go into the
temple of the Lord and burn incense. 10 And when
the time for the burning of incense came, all the assembled worshipers were
praying outside. 11 Then an
angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of
the altar of incense. 12 When
Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear. 13
But the angel said to him: "Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has
been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him
the name John. 14 He will be
a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, 15 for he
will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other
fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from birth. 16
Many of the people of Israel will he bring back to the Lord their God. 17 And he will go on
before the Lord, in
the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to
their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the
righteous--to make ready a
people prepared for the Lord."
Further
after the birth of John, his father Zecharias filled with the Holy Spirit prophesied
confirming what the Angel of the LORD had declared earlier in the same chapter that
John will
go on before the Lord (Luke
1:67-79):
67 His father
Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied: 68
"Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has
come and has redeemed his people. 69
He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the
house of his servant David 70 (as he
said through his holy prophets of long ago), 71
salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us-- 72
to show mercy to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant, 73 the oath
he swore to our father Abraham: 74
to rescue us from the hand of our enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear 75 in
holiness and righteousness before him all our days. 76
And you, my child, will be called a
prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, 77 to give
his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, 78 because of
the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come
to us from heaven 79 to shine on those living in darkness and in
the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of
peace." 80 And the
child grew and became strong in
spirit; and he lived in the desert until he appeared
publicly to Israel.
Additionally we see more about this
messenger that was to prepare the way for Jesus in: Malachi 3:1: "See, I
will send my messenger, who
will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the
covenant, whom you desire, will come," says
the LORD Almighty.
Mark 1:2 It is
written in Isaiah the prophet: "I
will send my messenger ahead of you, who
will prepare your way"—
Notice
further down in Mark what else this messenger was, who he was and what he does:
Mark 1:3-8 "a voice of one calling
in the desert, 'Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him. (See
Isaiah 40:3) ' " 4 And so
John came, baptizing in the desert region and preaching a baptism of repentance
for the forgiveness of sins. 5 The whole
Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing
their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River (See Malachi 3:1, Malachi
4:5-6, Luke 1:17, Luke 1:76-79). 6 John wore clothing made of camel's hair, with a leather belt around
his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. 7
And this was his message: "After me will come one more powerful than I,
the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. 8
I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."
So, we see that John the Baptist was
in the spirit of Elijah, but not actually Elijah reincarnated.
It’s also of interest to note that the writer lets us know in Mark 1:6 that John wore clothing made of camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist.
We
see that Elijah wore similar clothing according to (2 Kings 1:8) They
replied, "He
was a man with a garment of hair and with a leather belt around his
waist." The king said, "That was Elijah the Tishbite.
We see mention of the clothing again with
respect to John in Matthew 3 but also more confirmation of who he was in Matthew 3:2-4 : In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in
the Desert of Judea 2 and
saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near (See Mark 1:2-4). "

This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: "A voice of one
calling in the desert, 'Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for
him.' (See Isaiah 40:3 & Mark 1:5) " 4
John's clothes
were made of camel's hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist.
His food was locusts and wild honey (See Mark 1:6).
So we
can conclude that just as Jesus said “And if you are willing to accept it, he is
the Elijah who was to come”. John
came in the spirit of Elijah (like Elijah). John was to fulfill the same role
in his day that Elijah had, as specified in Malachi 4:5-6. That role,
specifically, was to call the nation of Israel to repentance.

Behold, I will send you Elijah the
prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: Behold, I will send you Elijah the
prophet,.... Not the Tishbite, as the Septuagint version wrongly inserts
instead of prophet; not Elijah in person, who lived in the times of Ahab; but
John the Baptist, who was to come in the power and spirit of Elijah, Luke 1:17 between whom there was a
great likeness in their temper and disposition; in their manner of clothing,
and austere way of living; in their courage and integrity in reproving vice;
and in their zeal and usefulness in the cause of God and true religion; and in
their famous piety and holiness of life; and in being both prophets; see Matthew 11:11 and that he is
intended is clear from Matthew
17:10. It is a notion of the Jews, as Kimchi and others, that the very
Elijah, the same that lived in the days of Ahab, shall come in person before
the coming of their Messiah they vainly expect, and often speak of difficult
things to be left till Elijah comes and solves them; but for such a notion
there is no foundation, either in this text or elsewhere. And as groundless is
that of some of the ancient Christian fathers, and of the Papists, as Lyra and
others, that Elijah with Enoch will come before the day of judgment, and
restore the church of God ruined by antichrist, which they suppose is meant in
the next clause.
Before the coming of the great and,
dreadful day of the Lord; that is, before the coming of Christ the son of
David, as the Jews (r) themselves own; and which is to be understood, not of
the second coming of Christ to judgment, though that is sometimes called the
great day, and will be dreadful to Christless sinners; but of the first coming
of Christ, reaching to the destruction of Jerusalem: John the Baptist, his
forerunner, the Elijah here spoken of, came proclaiming wrath and terror to
impenitent sinners; Christ foretold and denounced ruin and destruction to the
Jewish nation, city, and temple; and the time of Jerusalem's destruction was a
dreadful day indeed, such a time of affliction as had not been from the
creation, Matthew 24:21 and
the Talmud interprets (s) this of the sorrows of the Messiah, or which shall be
in the days of the Messiah.

the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite
the earth with a curse. And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the
children,.... Or "with" the children, as Kimchi; and Ben Melech
observes, that is put for and so in the next clause: and the heart of the
children to their fathers; or "with" their fathers; that is, both
fathers and children: the meaning is, that John the Baptist should be an
instrument of converting many of the Jews, both fathers and children, and
bringing them to the knowledge and faith of the true Messiah; and reconcile
them together who were divided by the schools of Hillell and Shammai, and by
the sects of the Sadducees and Pharisees, and bring them to be of one mind,
judgment, and faith, and to have a hearty love to one another, and the Lord
Christ; see Matthew 3:5; see
Gill on Luke 1:17. The
Talmudists (t) interpret this of composing differences, and making peace.
Lest I come and smite the earth with
a curse; the land of Judea; which, because the greater part of the inhabitants
of it were not converted to the Lord, did not believe in the Messiah, but
rejected him, notwithstanding the preaching and testimony of John the Baptist,
and the ministry and miracles of Christ, it was smitten with a curse, was made desolate,
and destroyed by the Roman emperors, Vespasian and Adrian, as instruments doing
what God here threatened he would do; for not the whole earth is intended, as
the Targum and Abarbinel suggest; but only that land, and the people of it, are
intended, to whom the law of Moses was given; and to whom Elias, or John the
Baptist, was to be sent; and to whom he was sent, and did come; and by whom he

The words carry in them some suspicion of unbelief and hardness of heart, as though they would not receive it: however, whether they would or not, it was a certain truth, that this same person, "John the Baptist", is Elias, which was for to come; who was appointed by God to come, and was prophesied of Malachi 4:5 that he should come; and even according to the doctrine of the Scribes and Rabbins, he was expected to come before the Messiah; only they in general thought that Elijah the Tishbite, in person, was meant; though some, as before observed (e), were of opinion, that some great prophet equal to Elijah, and endued with the same spirit, is intended; and which is true of John the Baptist, who came "in the Spirit" and "power" of Elias, Luke 1:17. JESUS IS THE ONLY WAY!!
What a beautiful word brought out in study this morning.
Points from the lesson this week that everyone can use a reminder on:...
GOD loves us - For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
GOD wants to forgive us - to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding (Ephesians 1: 6 -
GOD wants to have a relationship with us - Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them." (John 14:21)
Additional scriptures showing the need for all mankind to receive life and not the penalty of death - the second death that is, but rather to accept the sacrifice GOD provided for us in the death of his only begotten son by accepting the invitation to have a personal relationship with Jesus of Nazareth who is‘The Christ”:
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The LAKE OF FIRE IS THE SECOND DEATH. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:11 – 15)
But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars--they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." (Revelation 21:8)
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)
Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.a They will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.( John 10:7-10)
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in Goda ; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” (John 14:1-4) (Verse 2 in The Complete Jewish Bible says 2 In my Father's house are many places to live. If there weren't, I would have told you; because I am going there to prepare a place for you.)
The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his angels. (Revelation 3:5)
It’s about life and death – eternal life or the second death. If you don’t know him or are not sure if you truly have HIM in the place of LORD (Ruler/King/Master) of your life so that you can have eternal life then here is beautiful prayer written by an author of a bible study series a group I’m apart of has been studying. Please pray it today:
Dear Heavenly, Holy, Almighty Father,
I bow before you in awe of your beauty
I am unworthy to enter your presence
You are too magnificent to behold
But your mercy and grace permit me to come
Thank You for sending a Savior Man
Dear Jesus, Son of the Most High God
Son of the most lowly servant woman
You did this all for me
The perfect life, the sacrificial death
Nothing your Father required was left undone
I find no words to utter through these unclean lips
Nothing but tears of shame falling upon my lap
Here am I, at the foot of your cross, marveling
Now, before your majestic throne, praising
Please accept my deepest apologies
For the hurt I've caused and the sins I've done
Here is this lowly life, Lord Jesus
Please take it and renew it, let me be born again
Send your Spirit to introduce us, Jesus
And fill my heart with joy
Open my eyes to your Word
So I can learn your ways

Save me, teach me, keep me,
And love me forever and ever

After you have prayed the prayer please don’t hesitate to seek out a church where you can be baptized for the remission of sins and to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit which is our seal, a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance.
And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.' (Acts 22:16)
Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38)
Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come (2 Corinthians 1:21 - 22)
And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory. (Ephesians 1:13 - 14)
The local Church of Christ in your area may be a place to seek baptism if you desire to have it done sooner rather than later and if your local congregation is unable to facilitate your baptism in the very near future.
Also it is very important that you get into a bible believing church that advocates holiness as the standard of living and where you can be instructed in the teaching of Jesus and the doctrine of the Apostles (Be a disciple of Jesus).

The local Church of Christ in your area may be a place to seek baptism if you desire to have it done sooner rather than later and if your local congregation is unable to facilitate your baptism in the very near future.

THE MAN NAMED MANNA
Interesting Interesting!! We we’re studying the Life of
Moses on our early morning Prayer and Bible Study call using the Complete
Jewish Bible (because for understanding of the truth, we want to see things as
close to the original Hebrew text as possible). In reading this translation of
John 6:49-51 we saw this: 49 Your fathers ate the man in the desert; they died. But the bread that comes down
from heaven is such that a person may eat it and not die. 51 I am the living bread that has
come down from heaven; if anyone eats this bread, he will live forever.
Notice
the text in 49 says your Fathers ate the man in the desert; they died. Is this
a misleading translation? Is this an attempt at deception or is it something
else? What are they talking about they ate the man in the desert? I know we
Jesus is the bread of life and we eat him but my Bible doesn’t say they ate the
man, my Bible says they ate manna.
Well
I did a little research from the Bible and other sources and I found out a
couple of pretty interesting things. Go with me if you will on a short journey
through the WORD of GOD to find out what is meant by this man and the word
manna; you may be surprised. (For
purposes of seeing things as
close to the original Hebrew text as possible we will use the Complete Jewish
Bible in this article).
Because manna was
first mentioned as I see it Exodus 16 we’re going to start there and come
forward to John and beyond.
Exodus 16: 1 They traveled on from Eilim, and the whole community of the
people of Isra'el arrived at the Seen Desert, between Eilim and Sinai, on the
fifteenth day of the second month after leaving the land of Egypt. 2 There in the desert the whole
community of the people of Isra'el grumbled against Moshe and Aharon. 3 The
people of Isra'el said to them, "We wish ADONAI had used his own hand to
kill us off in Egypt! There we used to sit around the pots with the meat
boiling, and we had as much food as we wanted. But you have taken us out into
this desert to let this whole assembly starve to death!" 4 ADONAI
said to Moshe, "Here, I will cause bread to rain down from heaven for you.
The people are to go out and gather a day's ration every day. By this I will
test whether they will observe my Torah or not. 5 On the
sixth day, when they prepare what they have brought in, it will turn out to be
twice as much as they gather on the other days." 6 Moshe and
Aharon said to all the people of Isra'el, "This evening, you will realize
that it has been ADONAI who brought you out of Egypt; 7 and in the
morning, you will see ADONAI's glory. For he has listened to your grumblings
against ADONAI - what are we that you should grumble against us?" 8 Moshe
added, "What I have said will happen when ADONAI gives you meat to eat
this evening and your fill of bread tomorrow morning. ADONAI has listened to
your complaints and grumblings against him - what are we? Your grumblings are
not against us but against ADONAI." 9 Moshe
said to Aharon, "Say to the whole community of Isra'el, 'Come close, into
the presence of ADONAI, for he has heard your grumblings.'" 10 As Aharon
spoke to the whole community of the people of Isra'el, they looked toward the
desert; and there before them the glory of ADONAI appeared in the cloud; 11 and
ADONAI said to Moshe, 12 "I
have heard the grumblings of the people of Isra'el. Say to them: 'At dusk you
will be eating meat, and in the morning you will have your fill of bread. Then
you will realize that I am ADONAI your God.'" 13 That evening,
quails came up and covered the camp; while in the morning there was a layer of
dew all around the camp. 14 When the dew
had evaporated, there on the surface of the desert was a fine flaky substance,
as fine as frost on the ground. 15 When the
people of Isra'el saw it, they asked each other, "Man hu? [What is
it?]"because they didn't know what it was. Moshe answered them, "It
is the bread which ADONAI has given you to eat. 16 Here is what ADONAI has ordered:
each man is to gather according to his appetite - each is to take an 'omer [two
quarts] per person for everyone in his tent." 17 The people of Isra'el did this. Some gathered more, some less;
18 but when they put
it in an 'omer-measure, whoever had gathered much had no excess; and whoever
had gathered little had no shortage; nevertheless each person had gathered
according to his appetite. 19 Moshe told them, "No one is to leave any of it till
morning." 20 But
they didn't pay attention to Moshe, and some kept the leftovers until morning.
It bred worms and rotted, which made Moshe angry at them. 21 So they gathered it morning
after morning, each person according to his appetite; but as the sun grew hot,
it melted. 22 On the
sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two 'omers per person; and all the
community leaders came and reported to Moshe. 23 He told them, "This is what ADONAI has said: 'Tomorrow is
a holy Shabbat for ADONAI. Bake what you want to bake; boil what you want to
boil; and whatever is left over, set aside and keep for the morning.'" 24 They set it aside till morning,
as Moshe had ordered; and it didn't rot or have worms. 25 Moshe said, "Today, eat
that; because today is a Shabbat for ADONAI - today you won't find it in the
field. 26 Gather it
six days, but the seventh day is the Shabbat - on that day there won't be
any." 27 However,
on the seventh day, some of the people went out to gather and found none. 28 ADONAI said to Moshe, "How
long will you refuse to observe my mitzvot and teachings? 29 Look,
ADONAI has given you the Shabbat. This is why he is providing bread for two
days on the sixth day. Each of you, stay where you are; no one is to leave his
place on the seventh day." 30 So the people rested on the seventh day. 31 The
people called the food man. It was like coriander seed, white; and it tasted
like honey cakes. 32 Moshe said, "Here is what
ADONAI has ordered: 'Let two quarts of man be kept through all your
generations, so that they will be able to see the bread which I fed you in the
desert when I brought you out of Egypt.'" 33 Moshe
said to Aharon, "Take a jar, put in it two quarts of man, and set it aside
before ADONAI to be kept through all your generations." 34 Just as ADONAI ordered Moshe,
Aharon set it aside before the testimony to be kept. 35 The
people of Isra'el ate man for forty years, until they came to an inhabited land.
They ate man until they arrived at the borders of the land of Kena'an. 36 (An 'omer
is one-tenth of an eifah [which is a bushel dry-measure].)

Exodus 16:13 – 14 (It was a fine flaky
SUBSTANCE, as fine as frost on the ground - That evening, quails came up and covered the camp; while in
the morning there was a layer of dew all around the camp. 14 When the dew
had evaporated, there on the surface of the desert was a fine flaky substance,
as fine as frost on the ground.)
Exodus 16:15 (The word English word
MANNA in Hebrew is MAN HU and means What is it? -They did not know what the
stuff was that was on the ground. When the people of Isra'el saw it, they asked each other, "Man hu?
[What is it?]"because they didn't know what it was. Moshe answered them,
"It is the bread which ADONAI has given you to eat.
I was looking at this in my NIV and
where the word Man-hu is, there’s that same question that’s inside the brackets
that reads “What is it”. This question is also in the NLT, ESV, NASB, Holman
Christian Bible, ISV, Net Bible, ASV, Douay-Rheims, Darby Bible, ERV, Word
English and Young’s Literal Translation.
The King James Bible and Webster’s
Bible translated the question the children of Israel had “What is it” to manna.
(Remember they did not know what the stuff was on the ground.)
Exodus 16:29 (It was bread- Look, ADONAI has given you the
Shabbat. This is why he is providing bread for two days on the sixth day.)
Exodus 16:31 (The people called the
food man. It was like coriander seed, white; and it tasted like
honey cakes.)
Exodus 16:35 – 36 (The people of Isra'el ate man
for forty years, until they came to an inhabited land. They ate man until they
arrived at the borders of the land of Kena'an. 36 (An 'omer
is one-tenth of an eifah [which is a bushel dry-measure].)
Most of the translations I have seen
use the word manna in verses 31, 33 & 35
here so I looked up the word manna in the Strong’s Concordance and found
the Strong’s Concordance reference number for each of these verses is 4478 it
translates the word back to the Hebrew word – man. Therefore as the Complete Jewish Bible has
appropriately translated in verse 31 the people called the food man. The stuff
that the people didn’t know what it was and asked “What is it or Man Hu, they
named it man but it was bread according to verse 29, it was like coriander
seed, white and tasted like honey cakes according to verse 31.
I’m still waiting on an email response
from the Rabbi but I have provided references below if you desire to check them
out and study this again on your own for yourself.

fathers ate man in the desert -- as it says in the Tanakh, `He gave them bread
from heaven to eat.' 32 Yeshua said to them, "Yes,
indeed! I tell you it wasn't Moshe who gave you the bread from heaven. But my
Father is giving you the genuine bread from heaven; 33 for God's
bread is the one who comes down out of heaven and gives life to the
world." 34 They said to him, "Sir,
give us this bread from now on." 35 Yeshua
answered, "I am the bread which is life! Whoever comes to me will never go
hungry, and whoever trusts in me will never be thirsty. 36 I told you
that you have seen but still don't trust. 37 Everyone the
Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will certainly not
turn away. 38 For I have come down from heaven to
do not my own will but the will of the One who sent me. 39 And this is

Holman Christian, ISV, NET Bible, Aramaic Bible in Plain English, GOD’s WORD
Translation, Kings James 2000, American King James, ASV, Douay-Rheims, Darby
Bible, ERV, Webster’s Bible Translation, Weymouth New Testament, World English
and Young’s Literal Translation all say hidden manna or manna which is hidden
here in Revelation 2:17 so I looked up this scripture in the lexicon and saw
the Strong’s Concordance for manna here is G3131 meaning “what is it”. So the
Complete Jewish Bible used the word manna here where it should have been Man
Hu.
